Sunderland has long suffered from the lack of quality hotel accommodation. This lack of provision and steady business growth has ensured that demand for accommodation is consistently high.
As a consequence of this lack of quality hotel accommodation many business visitors have been forced to opt for accommodation beyond the city boundaries, a scenario which impacts directly on the city’s economic performance.
A major, quality hotel is planned for the Vaux development at the Wearmouth Bridge `gateway` to the City Centre, which will complement the commercial uses incorporated into the masterplan. In addition a budget style hotel is envisaged for the area between the Vaux site and the City Centre.
This will make a significant contribution to the vitality of Sunderland as a whole and compliment developments elsewhere.
