ARC SUPPORTS PRIDE OF WEARSIDE AWARDS
29/09/2009
Sunderland arc is once again supporting the 2009 Pride of Wearside Awards.
The Awards, launched by the Sunderland Echo in association with Gentoo, recognise Wearside's unsung heroes. And now the search is on to find people who have succeeded against all odds or think nothing of putting others before themselves.
There are nine categories open for nominations: Sporting Achievement; Safer Community; Community Group; Role Model; Student of the Year; Fundraiser of the Year, Child of Achievement and Child of Courage.
Nominations close on October 2 and the winner of each category will receive their award at a glittering ceremony at the Stadium of Light on 25th November.
Sunderland arc is sponsoring Community Group of the year. Chief executive David Walker said: "We are delighted to be supporting the Pride of Wearside Awards for the second year in a row. Last year attracted some fantastic, worthwhile nominations and we know there are countless groups out there who have made a real difference in the community and should be recognised for their efforts.
"The award will be made to a group whose time, effort, support and aspirations have improved an area in Wearside for the benefit of those who live, work and play there. We look forward to celebrating these achievements again later this year."
Peter Walls, Gentoo Group Chief Executive, said: “The Pride of Wearside awards give us all the chance to applaud and honour those individuals and groups who really make a difference to our city.
“Over the last few years the calibre of entries has grown to levels we could never have imagined. We are really looking forward to this years event.
“As one of Sunderland’s largest employers, we take our role within the community very seriously and it’s great to have the chance to support prestigious events like this.”
