Stadium Park

Stadium Village will build on the success of the Stadium of Light, focusing on leisure-based activities to create a centre of excellence for sport for the north east. The Olympic-sized swimming pool, which Sunderland City Council is leading on, is currently on schedule for completion in early 2008.

The vacant sites at Stadium Park, which have been reclaimed as part of the restoration of the former Wearmouth Colliery, are suitable for a number of leisure uses. In addition to the 50m swimming pool, there is a desire to develop a participatory sports facility on the site.
