Residential

This current industrial area, the home of the former Grove Cranes operation, will be transformed into a ‘Riverside Park’, a sustainable residential-led development.

Sunderland arc has been working with site owners O&H Properties on a suitable plan for Grove. An outline planning application was submitted in October 2004 but, following a supplementary high level masterplanning exercise, was withdrawn in order to address issues over house types and design.

It is hoped revised proposals will be submitted in 2008 broadly in accordance with the arc’s masterplan.

The site is also being considered as the potential landing point for a new transport bridge, opening up the South bank of the river for regeneration. The bridge forms part of a wider strategic transport corridor, aimed at creating a 21st century transport network in Sunderland and opening up the full extent of the arc’s regeneration plans in Sunderland.
